Vintage vibes

I mean, who doesn’t love a good vintage piece?!

Recently I realised why I love intentional vintage pieces in a space.

It’s all about story.

I think the reason why I so appreciate the design aesthetics of Studio McGee and Amber Lewis, is because there is an injection of character, and it implies a story, even though the home is often a new build that has no memories made in it yet.

Vintage pieces are the perfect way to nod towards memories already made, because they carry a story in themselves, and the invite you bring yours.

One of my favourite vintage girls is Natasha at "Willow Tree Designs” - not just because we almost share first names and business names!

She has an incredible ability to combine vintage and modern, which I love!

We often think that vintage will mean frilly, old fashioned, and often cluttered, but I think the current trends in interiors have learned some great lessons from the modern and minimal spheres.

I know I have definitely learned to pull back on the ‘stuff’ and let pieces have space to speak on their own behalf without cluttering the spaces around it. No frills of clutter here!

These pieces speak for themselves. They don’t need anything else to shout on their behalf!

Vintage vibes are all about the warmth and welcome we feel through shared experiences. Having carefully placed pieces that bring some character, some history and personality, helps us to relax, because by definition, they’re not perfect, and so we’re given permission to be our authentic selves.

Actually vintage is just about being real.
Not dressing it up.
Not having to be perfect.
Not having to be new and shiney.
It’s just you. As you are.

And that is stunning.
